BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - A 2-year-old boy received a new heart as an early birthday present last month.

Adonis Watts recently underwent a heart transplant in Sept. at Children's Hospital Los Angeles and returned home to Bakersfield late last month after spending six months in the Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit.

The toddler suffered from cardiomyopathy, a potentially fatal heart muscle disease that makes the patient susceptible to sudden cardiac death.

Adonis arrived at CHLA in June and required round-the-clock care at Children's Hospital in the months leading up to his transplant in Sept.
