BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Two Scripps stations won the Peabody Award this year.
23ABC's sister stations, ABC15 in Phoenix, Ariz., and ABC7 in Denver, Colo., were awarded one of the highest honors in journalism: The Peabody Award.
The Denver station won the award for a special report called "Investigating the Fire," an on-going investigative series regarding a controlled burn by the Colorado State Forest Service that turned deadly. Reporters uncovered mistakes and miscommunication that resulted in legislative changes that will compensate the victims and guard against future tragedies.
The Phoenix station received the award for their investigative report, "Ford Escape: Exposing a Deadly Defect", regarding a teenager’s car-crash death that revealed an acceleration problem that inspired a federal inquiry and the recall of more than 700,000 SUVs, according to the Peabody website.
The George Foster Peabody Awards recognize the most outstanding achievements in electronic media, including radio, television and cable. The Award is determined by one criterion – “Excellence,” according to the Peabody's website.
