BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -
The Community Action Partnership of Kern Food Bank, The Padre Hotel, and Color Me Mine are partnering up for the Third Annual Fill the Bowl fundraising event. 'Fill the Bowl' will be held on Friday, Oct. 5, from 5:30 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at the Prospect Lounge, inside the Padre Hotel.
The exhibit features hand-painted pottery by local artists, media personalities and celebrities, which will be available for purchase by silent auction. Featured bowl artists include: random act of kindness creator, Chuck Wall, Ph.D., 2012 U.S. Olympic Gold Medalist, Jake Varner and Olympic Cyclist Jimmy Watkins.
This year, 100 percent of Fill the Bowl proceeds will go towards wrapping up the CAPK Food Banks Freezer Campaign. The current freezer is small, antiquated and no longer energy efficient, resulting in frequent repairs and costly operations. Through grant opportunities and the communities support of Fill the Bowl, the Food Bank will be able to purchase and install a new freezer with increased capacity, and efficiency. This will allow the Food Bank to better serve individuals, families and children in need of emergency food assistance.
The need is perhaps, greater than ever, considering Bakersfield was recently named Americas Hungriest City, ranking #1 for food hardship in U.S. metropolitan areas; and Kern County ranking #1 for food insecurity in the state of California.
