5 acre wildfire burning along Hwy 58 west of Keene

Report: CHP beginning to control traffic

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - A wildfire is burning along Highway 58 just west of Keene, according to officials.

On April 30, at about 4 o'clock, officials with the California Highway Patrol went to the area of Highway 58, right around the Caliente exit.

Officials said the fire covers about five acres. The grassfire's forward progress was slowed due to the existing firebreak that runs parallel to Hwy 58, preventing the need for more resources.

Firefighters remained on scene to mop up and ensure no other hot spots remained that could ignite other dry grass in the area.

The cause of the fire is under investigation
