PBVUSD 5 elementary students taken to hospital after a bus crash during a field trip

Students suffered minor injuries

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Five students from the Panama Buena Vista Union School District and one adult were taken to a hospital after a bus crash during a field trip Thursday morning.

At about 10:28 a.m. two school buses collided, officials said.

The passengers on the buses were 6th grade GATE (Gifted and Talented Education) students from Sandrini Elementary, Reagan Elementary, Old River Elementary, and McAullife Elementary.

The students were on their way to the Planes of Fame Museum in Chino when traffic came to a sudden stop. The first bus was able to brake in time, but the second bus failed to do so and rear-ended the first bus, officials said.

Five students and one adult complained of pain and were taken to Arcadia Methodist with minor injuries.

The remainder of the students on the field trip were brought back to Stockdale Elementary where their parents picked them up.
