BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The wife of the man who was injured by the PG&E implosion desperately called 911 for help one minute after the power plant was imploded.
The man injured, Jerry Wood, is in fair condition Tuesday. Friends said he was scheduled to have surgery where doctors hoped to learn if Wood will be able to keep both legs.
In the confusion of the aftermath the victim's wife tries to tell the emergency dispatcher what is happening. In the background the victim can be heard crying in pain.
"My husband’s legs have been blown off," screamed Nora Wood. At first it was thought both of Jerry Wood's legs had been completely amputated by shrapnel from the blast.
At one point an officer put a tourniquet on one of Wood's legs and the dispatcher advises to only put pressure on the other leg.
Within five minutes of the call paramedics are seen treating Wood.
