A 94-year-old woman struck and killed a pedestrian Thursday morning, Bakersfield police officials said.

At about 8:40 a.m., the Bakersfield Police Department Communications Center received a report of a crash involving a pedestrian, in the area of Akers Road and Jaspar Avenue.

Officials said that a preliminary investigation into the crash revealed that the motorist, Judith Barr 94, was traveling northbound on Akers Road when she struck, Genevieve Rodriguez 42, who was walking eastbound across Akers Road.

Rodriguez was taken to a local hospital where she died a short time later.

Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor in this collision. The investigation is continuing.

Anyone with information regarding this accident is urged to call the Bakersfield Police Department at 327-7111.
