A Bakersfield nonprofit provides low-cost eye exams to uninsured or under-insured

Anyone without vision coverage can take advantage

Advanced Center for Eyecare is providing low cost eye exams and procedures for uninsured and under-insured Bakersfield residents.
The program started nearly seven months ago, thanks to a $163,000 grant from Kern Health systems. Since then, over 450 people have taken advantage of it.
"I woke up one morning and my eye was all red, just blood shot, it wouldn't go away so I panicked," said Tina Valencia, who turned to ACE with her eye problem because she did not have vision coverage.

The program offers routine eye exams, glasses and contact lens prescriptions.
Other services that qualifed patients are provided with include:
Eye disease management (Diabetic Retinopathy, Macular Degeneration, Glaucoma and all other types)
Eye surgery (Cataract extractions and all other eye surgeries)
Low vision exams
Magnifiers, and low vision devices
