A Bakersfield school's unique back to school event really sends parents back to school

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - An unlikely group of students headed back to school for the day. About 300 parents from Rosedale Middle School joined their kids for a full day of instruction. It’s a unique parent teacher get-together that has a lasting impact on students.
Parents spent the school day going from class to class with the students. The event is aimed at supporting students as their parents experience the child’s daily routine. Educators say students who have parental involvement have a better chance at educational success.
Rosedale Middle School principal, Becky Devahl says, “It's just a regular day at school, kids are learning, parents are learning right alongside. It's a great way for parent to see what goes on at Rosedale Middle.”
Many parents say they prefer this type of introduction as opposed to a parent-teacher night. The event has been going strong for more than 20 years.
