AB 556 to define Vet status, protect Vets from discrimination in California

Judiciary support bill on a vote of 10-0

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Assemblymembers Rudy Salas announced AB 556 passed the Assembly Committee on Judiciary with bi-partisan support on a vote of 10-0.

AB 556 would add and define 'Military and Veteran status' as a category protected from discrimination under the Fair Housing and Employment act.

"I applaud the members of the Judiciary committee for unanimously passing AB 556," said Salas. "I am pleased to partner with California Veteran groups like the American Legion and AMVETS to protect Veterans from discrimination, especially when we have so many Veterans returning from Afghanistan and Iraq."

Over 1.8 million veterans and military members reside in California with many more returning from service.
