BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - A judge refused to lower bail Tuesday for a man accused of being the Eastside rapist.
Billy Ray Johnson appeared in court Tuesday.
The 33-year-old faces 21 felonies and is accused of committing a string of sexual assaults in 2013.
Prosecutors said they have DNA evidence linking him to the crimes.
Johnson's attorneys asked for his $5 million bail to be reduced to $1 million. That request was denied.
They also asked for the trial to be moved to another county in order to get a fair trial, but the judge said it was too early in the process to grant or deny that request.
The judge did decide to seal the Grand Jury indictment.
Finally, they spent hours going through evidence and deciding what would be allowed to be introduced or not.
Johnson will be back in court by the end of the month.
