Scanners will make jails safer

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Technology used to make airports safer is now making its way to Kern County jails.
According to The Californian, the x-ray body scanners used by TSA officials are expected to be installed this summer at the central receiving facility and Lerdo Jail.
The body scanners are like the ones used in our nation's airports and up until recently, at Meadows Field.
The funding for the $250,000 machines comes from the state and AB 109 prison realignment funds.
They will keep jails safer for inmates and deputies by better detecting items like razors and nails that are being snuck in through body cavities.
