Alon refinery layoffs begin

62 employees to be let go

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Layoffs are scheduled to begin Monday at the Alon refinery in Northwest Bakersfield.

62 employees will be laid off between January 28th and Feb. 10th.

According to Alon President Paul Eisman, the refinery on Rosedale Hwy. is being closed temporarily so it can be re-tooled to support rail-delivered oil.

Eisman says it's due to the high cost of refining West Coast Crude oil.

Alon hopes to re-open the facility by late summer, along with similar facilities in Long Beach and Paramount.
