ALTA SIERRA SKI RESORT -
The Alta Sierra Ski Resort is getting set to open this weekend and right on time as freezing temperatures settle and the threat of snow enters are area.
Business wasn’t so great last year, but owners of the ski resort hope the predicted forecast this year can add to their success.
Danny Elam can’t wait for the doors to the Alta Sierra Ski Resort to open.
“It’s just going to be a lot of fun for the kids. They can’t wait for the park that’s for sure,” he said.
Elam started skiing and snowboarding to spend time with his son and if the forecast allows, families will get even more weekends to do the same.
“Everybody can come out here and just have a ball,” he said.
Leaders with the resort rely heavily on the weather to keep their doors open.
“When we got that four feet last year and then the extreme warm weather we experienced, it shut us down in no time flat so, I think the weather is different this year, it has been. It seems like it’s been colder as a matter of fact the conditions right now are perfect for skiing,” said Garro Ellis, co-owner of Alta Sierra Ski Resort.
Crews are putting the finishing touches on the resort, which they say can take a lot of man power and time.
“The ski industry is preparation all year long, you know from meeting with insurance inspectors or inspectors, you know the behind the scenes is most of the prep on a resort like that,” said Ellis.
The ticket office at Alta Sierra Ski Resort opens at 8 a.m. Saturday. People will have access to the mountains from 9 to 4pm.
