AmeriCorps to help Bakersfield youth with large-scale community service

BAKERSFIELD - Bakersfield youth will learn teamwork and community service from AmeriCorps mentors Saturday.

The volunteers were trained Friday on team building and how to instill community pride in local youth. They received career advice, a resume workshop and job search tips.

On Saturday, the members will be joined by dozens of youth mentees to complete several large-scale community service projects in the Weedpatch community, south of Bakersfield.

The groups will be doing cleanup, restorations and mural and garden projects at the Sunset Labor Camp, Sunset Middle School and the Historic Dust Bowl Camp.
