Amy Powers entered plea in case of embezzelment from Bakersfield Police benefit fund

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The woman accused of embezzling from a police benefit fund entered a plea Thursday.

Amy Powers pleaded no contest to one count of grand theft. Two other counts were dismissed.

Powers served as the Treasurer of the Bakersfield Police Benefit Association for many years and was accused embezzling about $45,000 from the association between January 2008 and early 2013. According to Greg Pulskamp, the Deputy District Attorney, "all thefts took place during the course of her work as the treasurer."

During that time period, Powers also worked for the Bakersfield Police Department, most recently as a Senior Police Records Clerk.

Powers will be sentenced April 29.
