BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Friday evening kicks-off the 27th annual Bakersfield Jazz Festival, it's a chance to hear just about every genre of jazz while also helping students afford college.
Over the years proceeds from the festival have raised over half a million dollars for CSUB student scholarships.
Don't think jazz music suits your style? Festival director Doug Davis believes you should think again.
"The word jazz encompasses pretty much everything of American music", Davis said.
Thousands are expected to turn out for the event that's been dubbed "Bakersfield's right of spring" so there's a good chance you'll run into a familiar face.
Davis explained, "It's a moment where you gather together and you see someone that you haven't seen since the last jazz festival and it really does become a moment for the whole community to take a little pride".
The two day festival will feature at least ten bands as well as CSUB student musicians.
The two day combo tickets cost $60 each, tickets to just Friday cost $36 and Saturday tickets will set you back $41.
Children 12 and under are free.
