BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Assemblymember Rudy Salas delivered hundreds of pairs of donated new shoes to children in Kettleman City on Friday, Sept. 13.
Dozens of families lined up in front of the Kings Community Action Organization in Kettleman City to receive their new footwear.
"This was an amazing partnership with organizations, community leaders and private businesses," said Assemblymember Salas. "We were able to come together to deliver brand new shoes to dozens of families today."
Kettleman City has a high rate of unemployment at almost 25 percent and a low-median household income.
"These kids were walking to school with no sidewalks and worn down shoes. We were able to change that for a lot of families today," Salas concluded.
The shoes were collected by the Assemblymember in both his Hanford and Capitol offices. The Substance Abuse Treatment Facility of Corcoran and Sempra Utilities also contributed to this project. The shoes were distributed to families identified by the Kings Community Action Organiztion in Kettleman City.
