Bakersfield Triathlon challenges athletes

Weather favorable for the intense race

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Triathlon was held Sunday in ideal racing weather.

The "Olympic course" included a 1.5 kilometer swim in Lake Ming, 40 kilometer bicycle ride and a 10 kilometer run.

A shorter "sprint course" included a half mile swim in the lake, a 20 kilometer bicycle ride and a 5 kilometer run.

There were also relay and kid's courses.

The race was a USA Triathlon sanctioned event.

Established in 1981, the Bakersfield Triathlon has earned a reputation as one of the most challenging triathlons in the U.S., according to the website.
