Bakersfield car pursuit, crash leaves Truxtun closed

Suspect reportedly caught breaking, entering

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Police Department has blocked East Truxtun in both directions at Tulare, due to a car crash after a police pursuit.

On Wednesday, April 17, at about 10:30 a.m., officers with the BPD said they received a call regarding a possible break-in at a mining store off of Truxtun and Union.

When officers arrived at the business, they said they found a truck in the yard. After contacting the suspect, a short pursuit began at about 40 MPH.

Witnesses told 23ABC that a truck being chased by the BPD ran the stop sign at Tulare and Truxtun.  According to witnesses, the truck crashed into a car with two women passengers inside.

Witnesses said they felt like the chase was in 'slow motion' and ended in a loud crash sound.

Officers said Truxtun at Tulare will be closed a couple of hours as they clean the debris from the road, which consists of mining material, such as metal wheels, pumps, and more.

The suspect of the robbery and hit and run was arrested and taken into custody after resisting police.
