Bakersfield City Council has passed a resolution honoring one of our nation's founding documents.
December 15th will now be officially recognized as "Bill of Rights Day."
The Bill of Rights was designed to protect our freedoms and limit government's power.
The resolution was approved the same day the U.S. Senate voted down a bill proposing limitations on the second amendment, which assures a citizen's right to bear arms.
A copy of the Bill of Rights will now be posted in City Hall and recognized at public events.
The resolution was introduced by Council member Russell Johnson.
