Bakersfield City Council voted yes on buyout of homes in path of Centennial Corridor

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - City leaders took the first step to connect a pair of Bakersfield freeways and wipe out hundreds of homes in the process.

Council members voted to use $165 million in early funding to buy homes along the Centennial Corridor route.

The city says there are not 83 property owners who are interested in the early buyout.

The Centennial Corridor will eventually link Highway 58 to the Westside Parkway, but  about 400 homes and other buildings will need to be demolished to make room for the freeway.
