Bakersfield city firefighters to get pay raise

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Local firefighters and police supervisors will soon be getting a raise, thanks to Bakersfield's growing economy.
The Bakersfield City Council approved a two-year agreement with the Bakersfield City Fire Department, which gives firefighters a 3.5 percent pay raise.
Battalion Chiefs will receive an additional 3 percent raise, as well.
Council members said the stronger economy made it possible.
The total cost for these raises will be more than $2 million.
They'll go into effect in July.
