Bakersfield Costco evacuated after possible freon leak

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Costco off Rosedale Highway in Northwest Bakersfield was evacuated Saturday evening because of a possible freon leak.

Kern County Fire Department Spokesman Corey Wilford told 23ABC that they got reports of a pipe that burst around 5:00 p.m.

Wilford said that pipe may have been leaking freon. The fire department then evacuated the entire building to be safe. Wilford said they would need to air out the building after stopping the leak.

There were no injuries. One patient on scene denied medical attention.

The Environmental Health Department was called in to investigate before letting customers and employees back inside.
