Bakersfield firefighters called to vacant home near Bakersfield Municipal Airport

Fire causes $60,000 in damage

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - A combined effort by Bakersfield City & Kern County fire crews were needed to extinguish a vacant garage fire early Wednesday morning in Southeast Bakersfield.

The fire started at 12:07 a.m. behind a home at 1115 E. Planz Road, according to Bakersfield City Battalion Chief Matt Moore.  When firefighters arrived, they found the home's detached garage -- and a car inside -- fully involved in flames.

"We also had power lines down, which hampered our efforts a little bit," said Moore.  It took about 10 minutes to bring the fire under control.

The detached garage suffered a total of $60,000 in damage.  The house was slightly damaged by flames.  There were no reports of any injuries.

Arson investigators are trying to determine what caused the blaze.
