BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - A study conducted by opensignal.com found that Bakersfield has almost 40 percent worse service than the average U.S. city and is 25 percent worse than the worldwide average.

With the cities population growing over 40 percent in the last 10 years Bakersfield's need for cell service has also grown, and many people have noticed the reception isn't the best.

Open signal provides visuals and information on cell coverage and nearby carrier towers that show how strong the signal is in any area.

One of the providers with the best service in Bakersfield has a 97% reliability rate and over 32 towers in the area, and several people 23ABC spoke to are satisfied with the signal.

"It's reliable. I can get service anywhere. At my old job I used to travel a lot and I would get service when other provider weren't there," said Anthony Shearer, a satisfied customer.

But another provider however, may have the right prices but one customer says the service is not.

"It's just bad service period everywhere."

Carly Heinen lives in Rosedale and says that part of town is where her service is the worst.

The signal map on opensignal shows very little service in that area and although there are several towers in town, theres a gap of that carriers towers in the Rosedale neighborhood.

23ABC spoke with a representative from Verizon today that explained tower location is a factor in cell phone signal but if the carrier has a back up cell site in case one is damaged and if they have up to date coverage and accessibility to 4G LTE the service should be better.
