BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Homeless Shelter got a lesson in health Sunday afternoon thanks to a group of college students.

Pharmacy students at the University of the Pacific spent the afternoon hosting a health fair .

A professor at the school said the students, who graduate in May, met with residents at the shelter to talk about things like dental and skin health, how sugar affects your body, and how to properly wash your hands, she said.

While it seems like they are basic lessons, they're things a lot of children overlook.

The group of students also tutored kids for the shelter's champ camp after school program, which organizers of today's event said gives the children someone to look up to.

Hoffman said the group is planning future events at the homeless shelter, just like this weekends.
