Bakersfield leads 'best performing' list in Central Valley

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield metropolitan area climbed to 19th in the nation on the Milken Institute's yearly index of "Best Performing Cities", according to the Central Valley Business Times.
The index for "Best-Performing Cities" measures job, wage, and technology performance to rank the nation's 200 large metropolitan areas and smaller metro areas.
Bakersfield jumped 28 positions from last year's list.
The city was 17th in wage and salary growth from 2009 to 2010 and 5th in tech output expansion.
Other Central Valley areas did not rank so high.
