Bakersfield man arrested after deputies seize handgun during foot pursuit

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -
Kern County Sheriff's deputies seized a handgun during a foot pursuit Sunday night.
On May 19, at about 11:40 p.m. deputies patrolling the area of Niles St. and Mount Vernon Ave. attempted to stop a car for driving without its headlights on and weaving in and out of other vehicles on the roadway.
Deputies said the driver of the vehicle, 41-year-old Jaime Soto, didn't stop and then led deputies on a short vehicle pursuit.
According to deputies, Soto abandoned his vehicle near the intersection of Kentucky St. and Descanso St. and fled on foot.
During the foot pursuit, Soto threw a loaded handgun into the front yard of a house in the 2000 block of Kentucky St. Soto was caught by pursuing deputies and resisted arrest before being taken into custody.
Soto was booked into the Kern County Sheriff’s Office Central Receiving Facility for evading a peace office, felon in passion of a handgun, felon in possession of ammunition, resisting arrest, and numerous vehicle code violations.
