BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - A man was hospitalized Tuesday night after suffering burns during a late-night apartment fire in Central Bakersfield.
Battalion Chief Anthony Galagaza with the Bakersfield Fire Department says the blaze started at about 10 p.m. at an 6-unit apartment building at 38th & Q streets.
"Upon arrival, [firefighters] noticed heavy fire to two units on the south end of the structure," said Galagaza.
Crews made a quick search of the apartments and found a 22-year old man with second-degree burns to his hands and face inside one of the units.
The victim, whose identity hasn't been released, was transported to a Bakersfield-area hospital.
The structure suffered heavy smoke damage. Damage is estimated at $350,000.
