BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -

A Bakersfield man shot a burglar inside his home Tuesday.

Kern County deputies said it happened just before 11 a.m. at a home near east Brundage Lane and Oswell Street.

A man inside the home told deputies he had shot an intruder twice in the chest.

The suspect, 26-year-old Arturo José Luis Estrada, ran about a half a block away, then collapsed.

Deputies said the suspect was taken to Kern Medical Center and is expected to survive.

The family that lives in the home said it’s the third time in seven days someone has tried to break into the home.

The man who shot the suspect was questioned and released by deputies.
