BAKERSFIELD - A man was hospitalized tonight after he was shot at a southwest Bakersfield park.  It all happened just before 8 p.m. Friday at Patriots Park.

Police say Jerold Mitchell, 57, was walking in the park with his 13 year old son when they both witnessed a shooting between two groups of people.

Seconds later, Mitchell was struck in the chest by a stray bullet.  EMS crews say the bullet was lodged in his sternum and he was rushed to the hospital and is now listed in stable condition.

23 ABC was at Patriots Park as dozens of potential suspects walked up to a squad car one-by-one.  So, the 13 year old witness could identify his father’s shooter.

Authorities have not said whether one of those people was identified.  The investigation is on-going.
