BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - A man is lucky to be alive after being shot in the head early Sunday morning.

Bakersfield police say the victim was in front of a home on Meeks Ave around 7:30 a.m., when a car pulled up and the driver asked the victim if he could use his cell phone.

As the victim approached the car, the driver allegedly pulled out a gun and shot him in the head.

Officials say the weapon was a small caliber, so the bullet didn't penetrate his skull.

The victim was taken to Kern Medical Center and is reportedly in stable condition.

If you have any information you're asked to call BPD at 661-327-7111.
