BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -

One man is trying to reshape his community after a 12-year-old boy was shot.

The boy was hit about 8:15 Monday night along Martin Luther King Boulevard.

Police said the boy is in stable condition and they are still looking for the shooter.

Meanwhile, Gino Richard is working to rebuild a youth center that was torched last January.

Fire officials suspect it was arson.

Richard said something like the King’s Dream Youth Center would help fight violence in an area where he says it’s all too common.

Richard said he has repeatedly been forced to stop construction on the youth center because of lack of funding.

He said he is looking for donations of both money and time.

If you'd like to help, you can call Gino Richard at 213-5340.
