BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - A pedestrian died after being struck by two vehicles on E. Brundage Lane Thursday night.

On Thursday, Nov. 22, at 6:54 p.m., Officers of the Bakersfield Police Department went to the 2000 block of East Brundage Lane where an accident reportedly occurred.

Officers found that 33-year-old Buffey Mitchell  had been struck by a van driven by Mary Elvia Cruz.

Cruz stopped to offer aid to the victim, but the pedestrian was hit by a second vehicle.

The driver of that vehicle did not stop, but fled the scene.

Cruz remained at the scene. She was found not to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and no charges are held against her at this time.

The victim was taken to Kern Medical Center where officials said she was pronounced dead.

There is no crosswalk in the area of the accident. It is unknown if the pedestrian was crossing the street, or simply walking in the roadway.

Officers are searching for a light colored compact car, similar to a 1990’s Honda or Toyota.

No other information is known at this time. The Bakersfield Police Department is still investigating this case.

Anyone with information is urged to call Officer Nicholas Gospich the Bakersfield Police department at 327-7111.
