BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Police officials said that 18 street lid covers have been reported stolen recently in Bakersfield.

The Bakersfield Police Department is asking for the community's assistance in identifying suspects responsible for multiple thefts of city property.

Over the past few months, the City of Bakersfield has discovered large amounts of catch basin lids and manhole sewer lid covers removed from their locations.

Officials said they think the thefts are occurring during the late evening to early morning hours.

The catch basin lids measure 2-feet by 2-feet and weigh between 10 to 15 pounds.  They are located on sidewalks above street storm drains.

The manhole sewer lids are found on streets and are circular and weigh between 150 to 180 pounds.

Anyone with information is urged to call the BPD at 327-7111.
