Bakersfield Police arrest man suspected of robbing woman at gunpoint

Suspect tried to run from police when he was found

The Bakersfield Police Department  arrested a man suspected of  robbing a woman and holding her against her will with a gun, Thursday. 
Police were sent to a Herbalife store, at 1215 Columbus Street, around 12:20 p.m. on a call about a robbery with a firearm. 
According to Police, when officers arrived, they learned the suspect held the victim against her will inside the business. During the incident , the suspect left the store with the victim’s purse and items of value.
After investigating the situation police arrested Matthew Najera, 26.
Police said that when officers made contact with Najera, he violently resisted arrest, injuring an
officer and then running from the officers on scene.
Police believe that is when Najera discarded the firearm,  that was believed to have been used in the robbery.
The gun was eventually recovered from Najera, along with the victim's personal belongings. 
Najera could face charges, including, robbery, false imprisonment, resisting arrest, felony assault on an officer, felon in possession of a firearm, felon in possession of ammunition and possession of stolen property.
