BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Police Department is keeping an eye out for any drunk drivers throughout the weekend. Starting Saturday night, the BPD will be conducting a DUI check-point in the Bakersfield area.
On Saturday night between 6 p.m. and 2 a.m. BPD conducted DUI patrols and they stopped a total of 75 vehicles for various violations, officials said.
Officials said six people were arrested for DUI, and officers issued a total of 40 citations.
Super Bowl weekend is known for its high rate of fender benders, according to officials - with a 75 percent increase in drunk drivers in California.
That's why BPD will join Kern County officials on Sunday to ensure everyone is driving safely and legally before, during, and after the big game.
