BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Rotary Clubs are hosting a "car rally" to support foster children, former foster youth and their families in Kern County.
A car rally is "a game in which people solve puzzles to learn directions to a party," said Jerry Elkind, of Bakersfield East Rotary, "You’ll be driving your car and getting directions from a car full of back-seat drivers!"
The proceeds of the event will benefit Covenant Community Services. CCS is a nonprofit organization that helps foster children, former foster youth and their families through partnerships with local churches, community-based organizations, individuals and businesses, like the Rotary Club.
Rotary Clubs will be purchasing a coffee truck for the Covenant Foster Children. All seven Rotary Clubs in Bakersfield are participating.
The Rotary Club is an international service organization whose mission is to bring together business and professional leaders in order to provide humanitarian services, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill.
The car rally will be on Saturday, October 5, at 2 p.m. at the Covenant Coffee Shop, 1700 North Chester Ave.
A full sit-down dinner with live entertainment and prizes begins at 5 p.m.
