Bakersfield shooting suspect arrested

Suspect served full term in prison

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Police Department has arrested a suspect in connection with a shooting that happened Wednesday morning.

Officials said investigation led to the arrest of 30-year-old Ruben Tony Cervantez for two counts of attempted homicide, one count of domestic violence and two counts of child endangerment.

The woman who was shot was determined to be pregnant at the time of the incident. The victim and her unborn child are being treated at a local hospital and are both in critical condition.

Cervantez is on post-release community supervision pursuant to AB-109. On April 4, 2011, Assembly Bill 109 was approved, placing non-violent, non-serious and non-sexual offenders under county-level supervision after their release from state prison.
