Bakersfield unemployment rate rises slightly, still lower than previous years

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Unemployment rates dropped last month in more than half of the largest U.S. cities, but California's numbers for the most part still inched higher.

In the greater Bakersfield area, which covers up to Delano, the rate increased by .3 percent, from 11.9 to 12.2, but is still lower than the 13.3 percent unemployment rate in 2011.

The state resting at 9.8 percent, down from 11.3 percent in 2011.
