BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Veterans Day is Monday, and thousands in Kern County will celebrate the national holiday -- and the veterans who served our country -- during Bakersfield's annual Veterans Day Parade.
The parade began at 10:00 a.m. Monday at the corner of 21st Street and L Street in downtown Bakersfield. The parade will then head west along 21st Street before turning south on G Street.
The parade will then head back east on 20th Street before coming to an end at M Street.
Veterans Day was first recognized in 1919 after World War I, when it used to be called Armistice Day. It was created by President Woodrow Wilson to honor the service of all U.S. Military veterans.
Dozens of people paid their respects to American veterans of the past and present at the Veterans Memorial in downtown Bakersfield.
Veterans, their families and citizens saluted Old Glory.
