BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Heart and Stroke Walk raised $165,000 for the American Heart and American Stroke Associations' Research and Education Programs along with promotion, prevention, treatment and better patient care.
About 2,000 people took part in the walk this year at the CSUB Amphitheater, and included at 5k run and a 5k walk.
Participation on Saturday was free, and there was also music, food and complimentary health screenings.
Heart attacks and strokes are the nation's and Kern County's number one and number four killers. Together they claim 832,000 lives every year, more than all cancers combined.
