Bakersfield woman helps another escape vehicle fire on Coffee Road

Construction site debris may have punctured tank

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - A passing motorist is being credited for helping another driver escape a car fire Wednesday night.

County fire crews said that a woman was headed south on Coffee Road, preparing to turn onto Brimhall, when she was flagged down by another motorist telling her the car she was driving was on fire.

The woman was able to escape without injury.

Fire officials said there was a trail of gasoline, but wasn't sure how long the gas was leaking.

Officials think the gas tank of the new Volvo Sedan may have been punctured by road debris from a construction site.
