BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Bakersfield police said when they arrived at the home they found the woman shot in the face but conscious. She identified the shooter as Jerome Wilson, officials reported.

On Saturday, February 23, around 4 p.m., Bakersfield police said they arrived at 1712 Clarke avenue.

Police reported that a child was at the home during the shooting, but the girl was unharmed.

Evidence from the shooting showed that the woman had been  shot while standing at the front door through the screen door, police said.

Officials reported that Wilson drove to Americas Best Value Inn at 889 Oak Street.

Around 7:30 p.m., Wilson was found inside of a room at the Inn and was taken into custody, officials reported.

During the search of the room police said they believed to have found the gun used in the shooting.

Police said Wilson was booked into the Kern County Jail for attempted homicide and child endangerment.

According to officials the motive behind the shooting is still under investigation.
