Bar owners, CHP and drunk driving advocates in full force for New Year's Eve

Many locals are working together to make sure everyone stays safe on one of the most dangerous nights of the year.

"We just spent our 10th Christmas without my wife and the mother of my children," Michael Benge, who lost his wife in 2004, said.


Benge is doing everything he can to avoid this from happening to someone else.


"I don't want anyone to go through what we've gone through," Benge said.


The California Highway Patrol will also be in full force.


"Don't make the holiday a bad day for your family to remember as a bad holiday for the rest of their life," James Nabors, a CHP officer, said.


"Please go out and have a good time, be responsible and start the new year out safe."
