BAKERSFIELD, Calif - The bats are back and residents in one southwest Bakersfield neighborhood want them gone.

23ABC first reported on hundreds of bats taking over the 700 block of Boca Del Rio Dr. in April 2012. At the time, a bat infected with rabies bit a cat in the area.

This year, the bats are back and stirring up fears among residents.

So far no one has reported any bat bites but residents say they don't want the potential for rabies around and they want the bats gone.

Residents say they can do very little to curb the problem because these bats are endangered.
