BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -

Bakersfield Christian High School celebrated Veterans Day early with its annual Veterans Chapel on Thursday.

BCHS hosted around 45 veterans at each of its past six special chapels to honor our veterans.

The chapel time included patriotic songs performed by BCHS' choirs and bands, a slideshow and a presentation to honor each veteran in attendance.

This year's guest speaker was 1st Lt. Michael D. Meek.

Prior to entering the California Army National Guard in 2008, Meek was an educator for 22 years, including serving as principal of BCHS.

He also had Cpt. Zina, a German Shepherd who served as an Explosive Landmine Detection K-9 and saved many lives. Both served in Afghanistan.

Most veterans in attendance were family members of students at BCHS, all veterans were invited for the chapel and to a light luncheon for the veterans and their families that will follow.
