Several parents spoke up in support of a $110- million dollar bond during Tuesday night’s BCSD school board meeting.

If the bond is approved, it would cost taxpayers within the district about 34 dollars a year. BCSD says the money would be used to build new schools and also to repair old classrooms. It would also replace aging portables and address safety concerns, like old paint that contains asbestos and lead. Some of the schools at BCSD are almost 100 years old.

The money would also be used to build more schools to help ease overcrowding. Something parents say is desperately needed.

In the last six years, the district says they've grown by three thousand students and expect at least another thousand in the next five years.

Parents say they don't mind footing the bill if it’s to improve the education of their children.

BCSD says they are confident and hopeful this bond will pass. They've done two surveys with BCSD residents and 70% have voted in support. It is important to note that no one spoke out against the bill during public comment tonight.

The bond will now appear on the November ballot.
