Bear cub in tree receives attention in Bakersfield neighborhood

Officials successfully remove bear from tree

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - An uninvited guest was trying to mark his territory just outside the gated community of 'City in the Hills'.

On May 2, at about 9:30 a.m.,officials went to a neighborhood in City in the Hills, an area just northeast of Bakersfield, regarding a black bear in a tree.

The bear's presence brought out officials with the Bakersfield Police Department and Department of Fish and Game.

They believe it is the same bear that was spotted at the Rio Bravo golf course Wednesday night.

A resident in the area told 23ABC he saw the bear in his backyard around 8:30 a.m. and chased it out. The bear ran up a nearby tree and stayed there for two hours until Fish and Game officers brought it down with the use of a tranquilizer gun.

According to officials, the bear was in healthy condition and was released back into the mountains immediately afterward.
